The world’s largest Jewellery fair to launch a Mumbai edition

Following in the footsteps of two successful fairs that take place in Hyderabad andChennai annually , it’s all systems go for the launch of the Mumbai Jewellery & GemFair, which will take place this year from December 9 to 11 at the Bombay ExhibitionCentre India.
Subhead: Mumbai - An international jewellery hubThe Mumbai Fair is “a direct response to the market, which has requested that UBMcome to Mumbai with a show timed in December, just before for the key buying season,which is at the beginning of the year,” said Jimé Essink, president and CEO of UBM AsiaLtd. “The market recognises the unmatched quality and professionalism of UBM’sjewellery events in India and around the world,” Essink continued.Mumbai is the richest city and the financial capital of India, which is one of the world’sfastest growing economies and has an established reputation as a leading manufacturerof fine jewellery, diamonds and gemstones. The value of India’s jewellery exportsincreased by 47% over the last year alone, top buying countries being the UAE, Chinaand the USA. Also, the domestic market continues to grow, despite the current globaleconomic environment India’s GDP is expected to grow by over 8% for the year 2011.The Mumbai show’s sister event in Hong Kong is the world’s largest jewellery event –the last edition of the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair hosted over 3.300 exhibitors andover 44,000 visitors from 135 countries.UBM already organises the two leading shows in the south of India, namely the Gem &Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE) in Chennai and the Hyderabad Jewellery,Pearl & Gem Fair (HJF). Together, these shows now attract more than 18,000 buyers.The organiser expects the debut Mumbai edition to feature over 300 exhibitors andattract 8-10,000 visitors“The Mumbai Jewellery & Gem Fair will be a comprehensive B2B jewellery eventproviding gemstone and jewellery manufacturers an invaluable opportunity to meetpotential customers and gather primary market intelligence,” UBM said. “The month ofDecember is also the best time to visit the city since the weather is relatively cool andpleasant during this period.” Since the Fair is scheduled after Diwali and before the startof the wedding season, it effectively sets the tone for 2012’s stock purchase
