SMART GRID: TECHNOLOGY, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION TO BETTER MANAGE ENERGY RESOURCES

Milan, 26 May 2011 – Promoting and encouraging a positive debate on efficiency, energy-saving and environmental sustainability in all phases of the cycle, from energy production to use, involving engineers and consumers. And also call the attention of policy makers to the advisability and advantages for the entire general public of responsible use of energy and the installation of modern, efficient and safe plants.

This is the goal of Rottamiamo gli Impianti Elettrici (Let's Scrap the Electrical Systems), the project born in Italy from the collaboration between Fiera Milano, Fondazione Opificium, Politecnico di Milano- B.E.S.T. Department and FME (Italian Federation of Wholesalers and Dealers of Electrical Material), which will culminate in E.TECH Experience (16-19 November 2011), the new Fiera Milano event dedicated to energy, electrical systems and lighting, where the strings of the work done on the territory will be pulled and a closer look will be taken at the advantages of technological innovation, above all if applied to networks and plants.

Energy was the core topic of the first conference held in Bologna on 10 May.
From the extensive debate between academics and experts in the sector emerged the need to renovate the networks through an intelligent electrical system equipped with ITC instruments able to ensure better knowledge of the "state" of the system also for the distribution network (distributed monitoring) to guarantee data communication/transmission between the components of the network and offer more detailed information which is accessible to the customers. Evolution from the present network to smart grids would make it possible to obtain a long series of benefits: easier connection and operation of generators of all sizes and technologies; an active role for the electrical load in the optimization of the system's operation; a greater amount of information at the customer's disposal, a considerable reduction of the environmental impact and a significant increase of the service's levels of reliability, safety and quality.

"Fiera Milano chose to commit itself in the front line to support and relaunch the energy sector, well aware of its strategic edge," declared Enrico Pazzali, Chief Executive Officer of Fiera Milano SpA, during the opening of the conference. "This is why we launched the E.TECH Experience exhibition. It is an event that fills a gap on the Italian trade fair scene, which until today has not provided an opportunity for meetings, business, information and training that measures up to the sector's needs. That’s why we are committed, together with our outstanding partners, to organising Let's Scrap the Electrical Systems, a project that will involve the actors of the chain in a concerted effort of analysis, debate and – why not? – making proposals, centred on the great and highly contemporary topics of clean energy, efficiency and safety."

E.TECH Experience, the new Fiera Milano exhibition dedicated to the energy chain, will be held at Fiera Milano in Rho from 16 to 19 November 2011. Three commodity macrosectors are represented: components and systems for electric plant engineering (E.TECH Experience Building); lighting sources and devices (E.TECH Experience Lighting); production and distribution of electricity (E.TECH Experience Energy). E.TECH Experience will dedicate special attention to the production of energy from renewable sources thanks to collaboration with EnerSolar+, the event on photovoltaic solar and thermal energy, photovoltaic technologies (PV Tech), inverters (Invex) and the other renewable energies (Greenergy Expo).
